Behind St. Nicholas’ Cathedral in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK, there is a tiny backstreet named Amen Corner. The most noticeable thing about this street is a huge ornate doorway. Atop the doorway is a figure of a bizarrely horrific fanged rabbit. Nicknamed ‘The Vampire Rabbit’, the silent staring statue is an utter mystery to everyone in the city.

No-one knows who designed it, when it was built, or what it represents. Some believe it is the symbol of a secret society, of which nothing is known, others believe it is not in it’s original form and that in fact has been added to and repainted over the years into a monstrous mish-mash, like a highly evolved God for various stonemasons.

Today it guards the offices of a solicitor. A suitable ally, as many joke in the town that it is ‘the footman of the bloodsuckers’.
